Mr Personal Profile

Malin Wijeratna qualified from Guys, Kings, and St Thomas Medical School, London. His general Orthopedic training was on the East End training program, which included Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge. After this, he learned advanced techniques in shoulder and elbow surgery in Melbourne, Australia, before being appointed as a Consultant in Nottingham between 2015 -2022.

During his time in Nottingham, Malin Wijeratna developed a tertiary-level practice treating patients with complex problems who had been referred to him from surrounding hospitals. His specialist interests are in shoulder and elbow arthroscopy, and also primary and revision joint replacement. He has now joined the team at Three Shires Hospital to provide high-quality care for the people of Northamptonshire.

Malin Wijeratna is also widely published in the Orthopedic peer-review literature and has delivered many national and international presentations. He has been awarded prizes by the British Elbow and Shoulder Society for his research work.

Malin Wijeratna has always had an interest in teaching. Due to his experience and surgical ability, he has regularly been on the faculty and also been the convener of live surgery courses for experienced shoulder surgeons. He has also provided General Practitioners with shoulder and elbow problems in primary care to help them treat their patients more effectively. He is extremely keen to share information about the latest advances in shoulder and elbow surgery.

Clinical

Mr Wijeratna has an NHS and private practice in Northampton and performs over 300 surgical procedures a year, but understands that there are many causes of shoulder and elbow pain, which require accurate diagnosis and appropriate management that doesn't involve surgery!

 Mr Wijeratna performs pain-relieving steroid injections as well as surgery for impingement, stiffness, instability, and arthritis. He will communicate effectively with your physiotherapist to ensure that you recover as quickly as you can from your painful shoulder or elbow.
