Mr Malin Wijeratna is a Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of shoulder and elbow pain and conditions. He qualified from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ Medical School in London and completed his general orthopaedic training on the East End training programme, which included Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
He then undertook advanced fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery in Melbourne, Australia. Following this, he was appointed as a Consultant in Nottingham, where he worked from 2015 to 2022.
During his time in Nottingham, Mr Wijeratna developed a tertiary-level practice, treating patients with complex shoulder and elbow conditions referred from surrounding hospitals. This experience allows him to manage both routine and more complex cases with confidence.
Mr Wijeratna has specialist expertise in shoulder and elbow arthroscopy (keyhole surgery), as well as primary and revision joint replacement. He now practises at Three Shires Hospital, providing care for patients across Northamptonshire.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Wijeratna is actively involved in research and education. He has published widely in peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals and has presented at national and international conferences. His work has been recognised with awards from the British Elbow and Shoulder Society.
He is committed to teaching and regularly contributes to training courses for surgeons. He has served as both faculty and convener for live surgery courses focused on shoulder surgery. He has also worked with General Practitioners to support the management of shoulder and elbow conditions in primary care.
Mr Wijeratna is dedicated to sharing knowledge and staying up to date with the latest advances in shoulder and elbow surgery, ensuring patients benefit from current best practice.
Mr Wijeratna has both NHS and private practices in Northampton and performs over 300 surgical procedures each year. He treats a wide range of shoulder and elbow conditions and understands that pain can have many different causes.
