Personal Profile

Mr Majid Ali is a highly experienced UK-trained Consultant Surgeon with over two decades of clinical expertise in weight loss (bariatric) surgery, hernia repair, gallbladder surgery, and anti-reflux procedures. He is internationally recognised for pioneering safe, minimally invasive surgical techniques with a focus on long-term results.

Mr Ali was instrumental in establishing the first dedicated Bariatric Centre in Ayrshire, which earned global recognition and was featured on the BBC documentary Shedding the Fat. He is among the first surgeons in the UK and internationally to reverse gastric bypass surgery, restoring normal anatomy for patients suffering from complications. He is a leading expert in treating complications after weight loss surgery, such as reflux and heartburn.

As a former Clinical Director for Surgery and Endoscopy at a major NHS hospital, Mr Ali led multidisciplinary teams and transformational projects aimed at improving surgical outcomes and patient access to specialist care. His leadership and innovation in surgical services have earned him eight national awards from NHS Scotland, as well as the 2025 CARE Recognition Award from the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi.

Mr Ali frequently teaches and performs live surgery at international conferences, sharing his expertise in advanced bariatric and laparoscopic procedures. He is also a recognised examiner in the field of surgery, both in the UK and internationally.

Mr Ali is a frequent invited speaker and live surgical demonstrator at major global conferences. His work has been showcased by BBC News, national and international television, radio, and print media. He has performed live operations on camera for medical education and public awareness.

He has also contributed extensively to research in the field of bariatric surgery, leading multiple publications and international collaborations, and supervising postgraduate students during his academic tenure.
