Mr Onwudike also benefited from a fellowship in endovascular surgery at Foundation Hospital Marseille, France. He has published papers and presented at national and international meetings. He was awarded the intercollegiate FRCS in general surgery with vascular subspecialty in January 1999 and the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in June 1999. He has a Bachelor of Laws (1st Class) degree from The Open University in 2016.
Mr Onwudike has been a consultant Vascular Surgeon at Bolton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust since 2000. His emergency and in-patient activities were transferred to MFT in 2014 and 2016 respectively following the sub-regional centralisation of vascular services. Mr Onwudike has vast experience in all aspects of vascular surgery including minimally invasive procedures for varicose veins and hyperhidrosis, thoracic outlet syndrome, peripheral occlusive disease of arteries, aneurysms carotid body tumours, vascular trauma all forms of circulation problems. Mr Onwudike has excellent reviews by his patients. One review described Mr Onwudike as a “good communicator” who “acted in my best interest at all times”
Mr Onwudike is widely published and his most recent publication on compression following radiofrequency ablation of varicose veins was designated Editor’s choice in most authoritative vascular journal – The European Journal of Vascular Surgery. He is an examiner for both the MRCS in general surgery and FRCS in Vascular Surgery. He is active in surgical education and was the Royal College of Surgeons Tutor at Bolton for over 6 years. He was the Guardian of Safe Working for a period of 3 years which ended in September 2019. Both roles entailed clinical governance responsibilities for the trainees and the consultant trainers alike.
Mr Onwudike is a member of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland; the European Society for Vascular Surgeons and the European Venous Forum.
