About Mrs Lorraine Grover

Personal Profile

Lorraine Grover is a Sexologist. She qualified from St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London 40 years ago and as a Psychosexual (Sex) Therapist in 2003.  Her particular expertise for the past three decades has been managing male sexual dysfunction. She was a Urology Research Sister in the early 90’s involved in clinical trials of an unnamed tablet that became the infamous Viagra! Lorraine has a special interest in caring for patients diagnosed with prostate cancer (and whenever possible their partners). As sexual difficulties can have both psychological and organic (ill health) causes, she considers both aspects of management. In 2006 she started lecturing around the UK as part of a multi-disciplinary masterclass team providing free training to primary healthcare personnel.

For several years Lorraine worked in the NHS providing nurse-led erectile dysfunction clinics at St George’s Hospital, London and Wycombe Hospital, Buckinghamshire.  Lorraine now provides a private consultation service to help men and women overcome difficulties with sexuality and intimacy.

She won a Developing Practice Award from The Queen’s Nursing Institute in 2005 to develop an information package for patients and partners regarding erectile dysfunction. This can be viewed on her website www.lorrainegrover.com. She is the Treasurer and a Trustee of the Sexual Advice Association (SAA), the only national charity of its type. She is a Specialist Advisor to Macmillan Cancer Support, Prostate Cancer UK and Cancer Research UK. On the SAA website you can view the booklet she co-authored (which was highly commended in the Pfizer Oncology Awards 2010), providing practical support, tips and advice for cancer patients and their partners. Lorraine lectures nationally and internationally to patient groups and healthcare professionals. Recently, after being spotted via the power of social media, she has been able to promote awareness about discussing sexuality and intimacy within the colorectal disease community. Following the impact of COVID-19, Lorraine has participated in several international webinars with simultaneous translations allowing her passion to help improve the way sexuality and sexual function is managed within the global healthcare community!

Lorraine was privileged to be involved in the development of the first international guidelines ‘Sexual Health and Prostate Cancer’ recently published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine.

Her passion is to improve the way sexuality and intimacy is addressed within healthcare irrespective of a patients sexual orientation, relationship status or age. Everyone should be able to enjoy sexual pleasure without shame or stigma.
