Personal Profile

Lorna Sneddon is a Consultant ENT and Thyroid Surgeon with over 25 years of experience in the treatment of ENT and thyroid conditions. She is Clinical Associate Professor with the University of Nottingham and is Director for Clinical Skills for Nottingham Medical School.

Lorna earned her primary medical qualification at the University of Aberdeen in 1993, after which she undertook her basic surgical training at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital and Guy's Hospital in London. Whilst in London, Lorna successfully achieved the General Surgery Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh, and Fellowship in Otolaryngology of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

Lorna then went on to join the prestigious Oxford Surgical Training Rotation to complete her surgical training in ENT, Thyroid and Head and Neck Surgery. Lorna then went to further her surgical training with an International Head and Neck Surgical Fellowship in Sydney, Australia under the tutelage of Professor Chris O'Brien.  She experienced working in a different healthcare setting, and with patients from all over the Southern Hemisphere. The Surgical Fellowship also provided invaluable operating experience, allowing Lorna to operate on a wide variety of conditions including complex head and neck reconstruction with a world leader in Head and Neck Surgery.

Upon completion of her fellowships and training, Lorna was appointed Consultant ENT and Thyroid Surgeon at Nottingham University Hospitals in 2008. Lorna has also been Clinical Lead for Head and Neck Cancer, Foundation Training Program Director, Educational and Clinical Supervisor for junior doctors, and was awarded a Health Education England Teaching Award as recognition for her role with junior doctors. Lorna has been passionate about medical education and has recently completed a master’s in medical education at University College London.

Lorna enjoys all aspects of her clinical practice and makes the patient at the centre of any management plan.
