He is dual qualified in Dentistry (BDS) and Medicine (MBChB) with 3 fellowships from Royal Colleges of Surgeons in General Surgery (FRCS), Oral Surgery & Oral Medicine (FDSRCS) and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (Intercollegiate FRCS). In July 2006, he was awarded Master in Law (LLM) in medical practice from the University of Wales, and also became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).
Now, Mr Cheng is clinical lead in Oral, Maxillofacial, Head and Neck Surgery at Homerton University Hospital in East London, and the lead course organiser for the London Deanery for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
Every year, Mr Cheng trains 60 core trainees in London and South East England in his surgical skills and facial soft tissue courses.
Aside from his role as a specialist cancer surgeon for skin, thyroid, head & neck regions, Mr Cheng regularly lectures in the UK and abroad in Europe, Africa, Asia and America including an invitation to University of Florida in Jacksonville, USA as a visiting professor. He has published numerous papers in peer review journals including invited editorial papers.
Additionally, aside from his substantive NHS practice and teaching commitments, he regularly serves as a volunteer Maxillofacial, Thyroid and Reconstructive Surgeon aboard the ‘Mercy Ships’ in West Africa. Mr Cheng has recently served his 17th mission aboard the ships, performing life-saving and life-transforming surgery on critical patients. For the last 16 years, he has been giving up 2 weeks of his holidays to volunteer with the Mercy Ships in Liberia, Benin, Togo, Madagascar, Guinea, Cameroon, Sierre Leone, Ghana, Senegal and Congo Republic bringing hope and healing to the forgotten poor. In most of his mission trips, Mr Cheng has been accompanied by his loving family members.
Mr Cheng therefore offers a wide range of diagnostic and surgical treatment for benign and malignant lesions and deformities affecting the face, mouth, head and neck regions.
The treatment he offers ranges from oral surgery including impacted wisdom teeth surgery and mouth surgery to major salivary gland and thyroid gland surgery. Apart from providing diagnosis and surgery to head and neck cancer, skin cancer, salivary gland cancer and thyroid cancer, he also offers diagnosis and surgery to any benign tumour affecting the face, mouth, head and neck regions.
