Specialist training

Mr Kunasingam underwent specialist foot and ankle fellowship training at several centres in Sydney Australia which included the treatment of elite athletes and minimally invasive surgical techniques. On return to the UK he did a second fellowship in trauma surgery at a key London level 3 (highest level of trauma) trauma centre - King's College London.

Fellowship allows a surgeon to be competitively selected to work in centres of extreme specialism. This fellowship was for over 12 months allowing time to master techniques including keyhole bunion surgery. As a Surrey and London foot and ankle surgeon this elective fellowship was complemented by his trauma fellowship where he could be lead surgeon in major trauma. He is an active trauma surgeon at Croydon University Hospital and teaches foot and ankle trauma internationally.

Mr Kunasingam took up a consultant post and set up the foot and ankle unit at Croydon University Hospital. His practice covers all aspects of foot and ankle surgery striving for excellence using evidence based methods.

He is an exponent of minimally invasive surgery allowing virtually all of his cases to be performed as day case procedures. He is internationally published in minimally invasive (keyhole) bunion surgery. What are your surgical principles? ‘less is more – I’m passionate about minimally invasive or keyhole surgery as well as less invasive surgery to accurately perform surgery through tiny incisions meaning less soft tissue stripping and damage as well as allowing for early and often immediate weight-bearing and return to a good quality of life’
