After qualifying from Kings College Hospital, London in 1991 with both medical (MBBS) and bachelor of science (BSc) degrees, he rapidly completed junior doctor training becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 1994.
With a keen interest in the cardiology sciences he managed to secure a prestigious training position at Guy’s Hospital and proceeded with specialist cardiology training based within Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals, with further research experience in Glenfield Hospital, achieving his specialist qualification in cardiology in 2002 and later his MD from the University of London.
His MD thesis allowed him to develop the fundamental skills vital to the analysis of clinical data which is crucial to the application of research to everyday cardiological clinical practice. This has been of enormous benefit to the thousands of patients that he has treated during his career.
He spent three hectic years developing cardiology services at the Queens Hospital, Burton upon Trent before being invited back to the south east, to develop the arrhythmia and other cardiology services within East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation trust (EKHUFT).
In recognition of his clinical excellence and dedication to his exemplary performance he was invited by esteemed cardiology peers to become a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) in July 2008.
Through hard work and diligence he has developed his expertise in all aspects of cardiovascular medicine. He has a particular interest in device therapy (pacemakers) and specifically devices for the treatment of life threatening cardiac arrhythmias (Implantable cardioverter defibrillator) and heart failure (Cardiac resynchronisation therapy). These vital therapies are however, complimentary to the application of evidence based medical therapies in the treatment of a wide range of cardiovascular diseases.
Recognising the ever increasing importance of diagnostic imaging in the management of cardiovascular disease and risk stratification he was instrumental in the development of cardiovascular CT both within EKHUFT within The Chaucer hospital. He has achieved level II accreditation in cardiovascular CT enabling independent performance & reporting of cardiac CT. He is a member of the Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography.
Dr Ward is a highly regarded and trusted member of the The Chaucer consultant body with a reputation for excellence in clinical practice. He is excited about the developments in cardiovascular diagnostics that The Chaucer have embarked upon and looks forward to utilizing these developments for patient care and to ensure good patient outcomes and experience.
