About Katharine Pink
Personal Profile
Dr Pink completed her undergraduate medical school studies at Nottingham University and additionally achieved an intercalated medical science degree with research in neurointensive care. This sparked an early interest in neurology as a speciality.
She subsequently completed higher medical training in all medical specialities at the Royal Surrey County Hospital and Guys and St Thomas’ NHS Trust leading to her MRCP qualification.
Given her early interest in neurology she decided to specialise and secured a place on the competitive neurology training scheme at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Aside general neurology she developed a passion for headache medicine.
In addition to her neurology training she additionally undertook training to qualify as a GP as she felt this holistic approach would further support her ultimate aim to become a well rounded headache specialist. During her GP training she focussed on women’s health and attained extra qualifications which has led to her interest in hormonal related headaches.
Dr Pink always strives to offer a well rounded, patient-centred headache consultation, not only encompassing the presenting headache complaint but exploring how that fits within the person’s life. She is keen to explore conventional and complementary options tailored to the patient’s needs.
She has worked within the St Georges tertiary headache service for 13 years and more recently helped to set up a secondary care based one stop headache hub within the trust. As part of this she is involved in headache education and training for all healthcare professionals and ongoing research and development of the service. She independently set up a headache service during that time more locally at the Royal Surrey County Hospital which she expanded to include an injection clinic for headache.
She holds further NHS roles at Dorking Health Care as a headache specialist and also works as a locum GP. She is passionate about medical education and works hard to raise the profile of headache within healthcare circles. She is an enthusiastic speaker locally and nationally for headache.
Please note that Dr Pink specialises in the assessment and treatment of headache-related conditions and only sees neurology and pain management patients where their symptoms relate to headaches.
Dr Pink only sees self-funding patients at Mount Alvernia Hospital and does not treat patients using private medical insurance.
