About Karen Imrie

Personal Profile

Karen graduated from the Grampian School of Physiotherapy in 1989 and has since developed a career across several cities - Ipswich, Sheffield, and Newcastle upon Tyne. 

Her expertise Cardiorespiratory Physiotherapy including general, cardiothoracic and paediatric critical care, and in due course progressed to a Band 8a Specialist Physiotherapist within Newcastle Hospitals.

Throughout her career, Karen has been involved in research, contributing to studies around exercise and motivation with diabetes, post-ICU fitness, and lymphoedema management. She also served as part of the teaching faculty at Northumbria University, helping to educate the next generation of physiotherapists.

After relocating to Aberdeen in 2006, Karen took on the role of Clinical Services Manager for Physiotherapy at Albyn Hospital. Since then, she has developed and led a highly respected team of musculoskeletal specialists. Karen has also established a Sports Injury Clinic, working closely with consultant colleagues to offer advanced services such as running assessments, focused shockwave therapy and Footscan assessments for orthotics.
