Mr Rowe-Jones was appointed as Consultant Rhinologist and ENT Surgeon to the Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS in 1997 for his expertise and specialisation in nasal and sinus surgery. He held this post for 17 years after which he left to develop his private practice as Director of The Julian Rowe-Jones Clinic. He has performed over 2500 rhinoplasty operations. He has pioneered and embraced a holistic and well-being driven, multidisciplinary approach to cosmetic surgery. He collaborates and has developed strong professional relationships with Clinical Psychologists who specialise in body image to optimise mental health for his patients and to maximise the benefits of surgery for them. He is also interested in the psychology of performance and how to use the lessons learnt from elite sports psychology in surgery. He believes his commitment to personally embracing elite performance coaching in his surgical practice advances outcomes for his patients. As a field leader in rhinoplasty he also critically evaluates technological advancements such as 3D photography with image manipulation and piezo ultrasound and diamond-tipped surgical instruments to improve patient care.
Mr Rowe-Jones trained in leading London teaching hospitals including St Thomas’s Hospital, King’s College Hospital, Guy’s Hospital, St George’s Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital where he was a Senior Registrar. During his training he also spent two years in research as a lecturer at The Royal Brompton Hospital investigating nasal and sinus disease. At this time he was at the forefront of teaching and developing endoscopic sinus surgery in the UK. His early surgical training involved posts in ENT surgery, general surgery, neurosurgery and plastic surgery. His higher surgical training was in ENT surgery with a specialist interest in Facial Plastic Surgery. He was awarded a travelling fellowship in Facial Plastic Surgery by The European Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in 1996. During this fellowship he spent time in three centres of international excellence in facial plastic surgery in Germany. Following this he was Vice-President of the Section of Laryngology & Rhinology of The Royal Society of Medicine.
He is double board certified in both ENT / Head & Neck Surgery by the Specialist Training Authority of the Medical Royal Colleges of the UK and in Facial Plastic Surgery by the International & European Boards for Certification in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Mr Rowe-Jones is internationally recognised for his skill and expertise in both cosmetic and functional rhinoplasty. He regularly publishes and reviews articles and texts on nasal plastic surgery as well as lecturing worldwide on the topic. He has written over 60 scientific papers and 11 book chapters on nasal surgery. He has been invited to give over 250 talks at professional meetings and conferences in the UK, Europe, North America, South America and Australia. This has included live surgical demonstrations to international surgical audiences.
He has served as a Board member of the International Federation of Facial Plastic Surgery Societies and of the Facial Plastic Surgery Working Group ENT UK.
He was Chairman of the Fellowship Committee, European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery from 2006 to 2012 and Chairman of the European Rhinoplasty Society from 2011 to 2012. He is a faculty member for The Royal College of Surgeons of England Cosmetic Surgery Certification. He has been a surgical trainer for the UK government funded Cosmetic Training Interface Group surgery fellowship programme. He is currently a Board member and examiner for The European Board for Certification in Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery.
