About Dr Joydeep Mookerjee

Personal Profile

Dr Mookerjee trained in paedatric cardiology from February 2000 until September 2006 and became a consultant in paediatric and congenital cardiology from 01.10.2006 at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital. Dr Mookerjee delivers super speciality care to children with cardiac diseases. His expertise is to identify heart problems in children from 0 to 16 years and continue their care until they are transferred over to adult services. This also involves evaluating children diagnosed with heart murmurs during routine examination or preoperative work up. 

His job is also to support and lead the families when a child is diagnosed with a cardiac condition through their emotionally challenging journey with timely appropriate counselling, It involves liasing with different professionals in local, regional and national MDT meetings in order to provide the best possible care for the child. He also provides his clinical expertise to two intensive care units in the hospital - neonatal and paediatric - with timely advice, appropriate investigation and intervention. 

He supports colleagues in General Paediatrics and other specialities in all hospitals in Manchester and other hospitals in North West England by accepting their referrals and giving advice after reviewing the children.

Dr Mookerjee has made great efforts to provide care to children with pulmonary hypertension locally by continuing a regular joint clinic with the national paediatric pulmonary hypertensin service based at GOSH London. He keeps up to date with their care and provide a local point of contact for any new patients diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension.

Dr Mookerjee is a GMC recognised educator. He supports trainees in paediatrics and paediatric cardiology as an educational supervisor and as a clinical supervisor. He organises regular training courses for Health Educational England North West. Dr Mookerjee has supported international charity Healing Little Hearts in developing free congenital cardiac services in The Mission Hospital, India.

Research and publications: Dr Mookerjee’s scientific research is regularly accepted for presentations and publications by the national and international associations of congenital and paediatric cardiologists.
