Personal Profile

Dr Joseph Paul De Bono is a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist. He was a medical student at  Oxford and Cambridge Universities. 

He trained in general medicine in Nottingham before specialising in cardiology in Cambridge and Norwich. He spent three years researching the effects of exercise on the heart rhythm for which he was awarded a HRUK young investigator award and a Doctorate in Philosphy by the University of Oxford.

Dr Joseph Paul De Bono undertook specialist training in cardiac electrophysiology at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. He finished his training within a year as the Senior Electrophysiology Fellow in the Heart Hospital, London.

During this time he was a lecturer at St Hugh’s college Oxford. Dr Joseph Paul De Bono is trained in all aspects of the management of abnormal heart rhythms including ablation, pacemaker and defibrillator implantation as well as medical treatment.

Dr De Bono currently works at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. He was an examiner for the British Heart Rhythm society and in 2017 was elected to the council of the British Heart Rhythm Society. He has been on the British cardiac society programme committee and did a PhD in Exercise physiology and has an interest in all aspects of arrhythmia.
