About Jonathan White
Personal Profile
Dr White completed his medical degree at the University of Birmingham. He later undertook his specialist clinical training and PhD in Nottinghamshire.
Dr White currently works in Nottingham as a highly regarded specialist consultant in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine. He is an advanced endoscopist with over twenty years of clinical experience. Dr White performs over 1000 diagnostic and therapeutic (gastroscopy and colonoscopy) procedures per annum.
Dr White is a regional expert in H. pylori related disease and has a specialist interest in pre-cancerous digestive conditions of the upper gastrointestinal tract such as Barrett’s oesophagus and gastric atrophy.
He is also highly skilled in the surveillance and removal of precancerous conditions of the lower gastrointestinal tract such as polyps. He also has a keen interest in IBD surveillance and other bowel disorders such as IBS.
Dr White has a remarkable track record in both research and education at the University of Nottingham alongside delivering a high level of clinical care. He completed his PhD investigating the use of endoscopic techniques to identify individuals at risk of complications of H. pylori infection, the role of eradication therapy on the immune system and implications for allergic conditions.
He also assisted in the pioneering of a non-invasive oesophageal tissue-sampling device that is now widely used in clinical practice.
With his expertise in observational, endoscopy and laboratory-based studies he has authored over 40 publications (which include original articles, review articles and book chapters) and is co-author in the current UK H. pylori guidelines.
Dr White has been awarded a number of esteemed international and national research grants, and has had work presented at conferences worldwide. He has also held several other key positions including Clinical Lead for Gastroenterology.
