Mr. Richardson qualified in 2005 from the University of Birmingham Medical School with honours in surgery. After excelling as a junior doctor he was selected for an esteemed run-through surgical training position and enjoyed a broad training in surgery, gaining experience in both general surgery and sub-speciality colorectal surgery in the West Midlands.
Mr. Richardson has undertaken a period of research at the University of Birmingham. He was the Chief Investigator of a translational research study that successfully characterised systemic neutrophil function in patients undergoing colorectal cancer resection. He presented the results of his research internationally and was awarded the prestigious European Society for Surgical Research Best Clinical Research Award for his research presentation. Mr. Richardson was awarded an MD (post-graduate doctoral research degree) from the University of Birmingham for his thesis titled, ‘The characterisation of systemic neutrophil function in patients undergoing colorectal cancer resection and the impact of HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors on host inflammation’. His research has been published in peer-reviewed medical journals and has received multiple citations.

Mr. Richardson is a well-rounded individual and he effectively balances his work schedule with his home life. He lives with his wife and five children in Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands. He and his wife enjoy the responsibility of raising a young family and running a busy home. He enjoys an active lifestyle including walking, running and swimming. He is still committed to competitive sport and regularly plays veteran’s football and coaches junior football in the West Midlands.
