Mr Jonathan Baxter is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in shoulder and elbow conditions across Buckinghamshire and North West London. He treats both acute injuries and long-term degenerative conditions, with a focus on helping patients regain movement, reduce pain, and return to an active lifestyle.
Mr Baxter has a specialist interest in arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery of the shoulder and elbow, which allows for minimally invasive treatment and faster recovery where appropriate. He regularly treats tendon injuries, including rotator cuff tears, as well as fractures, joint dislocations, and both early and advanced arthritis. He also performs shoulder joint replacement surgery for patients with severe joint damage.
His approach is tailored to each patient, combining surgical expertise with evidence-based decision-making to ensure the most appropriate treatment pathway.
Mr Baxter studied medicine at the University of Nottingham before completing his basic surgical training in the West Midlands. He then progressed through higher surgical training on the North West Orthopaedic training programme.
To further develop his specialist expertise in upper limb surgery, he completed advanced fellowship training in several leading centres. This included reconstructive upper limb surgery at St George’s Hospital in London, complex trauma training at the Rowley Bristow Unit at St Peter’s Hospital, and dedicated shoulder and elbow training at the renowned Wrightington upper limb unit.
Mr Baxter works within Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, where he holds senior leadership roles. He is the current Departmental Lead for Trauma and Orthopaedics and has previously served as Subspecialty Lead for Shoulder and Elbow Surgery. In these roles, he contributes to service development, clinical governance, and improving patient outcomes across the department.
Alongside his clinical work, Mr Baxter has a strong commitment to teaching and surgical education. He holds a Master’s degree in Surgical Education and has contributed to peer-reviewed publications and orthopaedic textbook chapters. He is actively involved in training junior doctors and supporting the development of future surgeons.
Mr Baxter is committed to an evidence-based and patient-focused approach. His goal is always to provide clear diagnosis, appropriate treatment options, and structured rehabilitation plans that support patients in returning to full function as safely and quickly as possible.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys watching rugby, skiing, golf, and travelling.
