About Dr John Bowler

Personal Profile

Dr Bowler qualified with distinction from St. Thomas's Hospital Medical School in 1984. He initially trained in general medicine in London and then specialised in general neurology at Atkinson Morley's Hospital (now part of St. George's).

He furthered his training in general neurology, stroke, and dementia at Charing Cross Hospital, where he earned his MD by investigating changes in brain blood flow in stroke patients.

Dr Bowler then completed a three-year fellowship at the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, focusing on stroke and dementia research. After this fellowship, he returned to Charing Cross Hospital.

In 1998, Dr Bowler was appointed Consultant Neurologist at the North Middlesex and Royal Free Hospitals. He practices general neurology and runs a TIA clinic at the Royal Free Hospital. In 2010, he joined University College London Hospital as a Consultant and is part of the multidisciplinary team at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queens Square, caring for patients with aneurysms and brain vascular malformations.

Dr Bowler has authored over 40 publications on stroke and vascular cognitive impairment and has co-authored a book on vascular cognitive impairment.
