Mr John McLoughlin has been in post as a consultant urologist at West Suffolk Hospital NHS Trust since 1994.  He also jointly worked in Addenbrooke’s Cambridge for a number of years.

Mr McLoughlin has a special interest in prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment. He has at times been a member of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) prostate cancer guidelines development group and is also the national lead for the Informed Decision Making (IDM) programme for benign prostatic enlargement and prostate cancer.

Regionally, Mr McLoughlin has been involved in Service Improvement Work for the former West Anglian Cancer Collaborative and Mid Anglia Cancer Collaborative. In addition, he was the former programme director for East Anglian Urological Training and a current member of the Regional Peer Review Team for Urological Cancer and the Site Specific Group for Urological Cancer.

Mr McLoughlin has published in several areas of urology and written a number of urology-related books. He has been a journal referee for the Journal of Andrology, Prostate Cancer and Cancer Diseases and the British Journal of Urology International as well as an expert advisor for the Prostate Cancer Charity.

He was a long history of performing microsurgical vasectomy reversal, with patients coming from all over the world.

Mr McLoughlin holds twice weekly evening clinics at St Edmunds Hospital.
