About Dr Joe Collum

Personal Profile

Dr Collum is a consultant gastroenterologist and clinical director for gastroenterology and endoscopy at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS trust, where he has worked for over ten years.


His main area of specialist clinical interest is in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), for which he is the lead doctor at ELHT. He also diagnoses and treats a wide variety of upper and lower GI disorders including coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, constipation and gastro-oesophageal reflux among others.

Dr Collum is an experienced endoscopist and has been an accredited Bowel Cancer Screener since 2015. His clinical practice includes the treatment and removal of large and complex colonic polyps.

After attending Manchester University, Dr Collum completed his medical training in Manchester and Liverpool. He went on to obtain a higher degree from Keele University, and has been granted Clinical Excellence awards for his improvements to services at ELHT.
