Personal Profile

Jeremy Southgate was educated at Christ's Hospital School in Horsham and trained in Medicine at The London Hospital Medical College in East London. He qualified in 1986. After junior hospital doctor posts at The London Hospital and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital Stanmore he joined the Wessex regional orthopaedic training programme in Southampton.

At the end of his senior registrar training he was appointed to a Fellowship in Sydney Hospital and St Luke's Hospital Hand Unit in Australia for a year. In 1998 he was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon to The Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

He treats all aspects of hand surgery including wrist and elbow conditions. He has written several papers and presented research at international scientific meetings including the British Society for Surgery of the Hand, The Australian Hand Society and at the International Federation for Surgical Societies of the Hand.

He is strongly committed to teaching to all medical personnel and regularly lectures on surgical training programmes both in hand surgery and anatomy. He is a member of the British Medical Association, the British Society for Surgery of the Hand and the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Private work is at the The Harbour Hospital Poole and NHS work is at Royal Bournemouth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Victoria Hospital Wimborne, Dorset.
