Mr Jeremy Hoffman is a Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in corneal disease, cataract surgery, external eye disease and anterior segment surgery. He provides expert diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of eye conditions, with particular expertise in corneal disease, cataracts, dry eye disease, keratoconus, corneal infections, refractive vision correction and complex anterior segment disorders.
Mr Hoffman is a substantive Consultant Ophthalmologist at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust, where he is the Clinical Lead for both the Corneal and External Eye Disease Service and the Emergency Eye Care Service. In addition to treating patients, he is actively involved in clinical governance, service development and the training of junior doctors, ophthalmology trainees and allied healthcare professionals.
His NHS practice includes managing both routine and highly complex eye conditions. He works closely with optometrists, orthoptists, specialist nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure patients receive coordinated, high-quality care.
Mr Hoffman studied medicine at University College London, where he received several academic awards. He completed his specialist ophthalmology training in London before undertaking advanced fellowship training in cornea, cataract and external eye disease at Moorfields Eye Hospital, one of the world's leading specialist eye hospitals. This advanced training provided extensive experience in diagnosing and treating complex corneal and anterior segment conditions, including patients requiring advanced corneal surgery.

Mr Hoffman performs a wide range of advanced procedures, including cataract surgery, endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK and DSAEK), full-thickness and lamellar corneal transplantation, corneal collagen cross-linking, pterygium surgery with conjunctival autograft, superficial keratectomy and YAG laser capsulotomy.
Patients value Mr Hoffman for his calm, approachable manner and clear communication. He understands that changes in vision can affect everyday activities such as driving, reading, working and maintaining independence. He takes time to explain each diagnosis and treatment option, helping patients make informed decisions about their eye health.
Alongside his clinical practice, Mr Hoffman has a strong academic background. He was awarded a PhD for his research into fungal keratitis, a serious corneal infection that can lead to permanent sight loss. His research has contributed to major clinical trials and international collaborations aimed at improving the treatment of sight-threatening corneal disease.
He has published extensively in peer-reviewed medical journals and regularly presents his work at national and international ophthalmology conferences. His research interests include:
Teaching is also an important part of Mr Hoffman's work. He is actively involved in postgraduate ophthalmology education, teaching medical students, ophthalmology trainees, optometrists and other eye care professionals. He regularly delivers lectures and webinars on corneal disease, ocular surface disease and corneal infection, while supporting the development of high-quality ophthalmic services within the NHS.
He also provides second opinions for patients with complex corneal conditions or cataract-related problems.

When surgery is recommended, he places great emphasis on careful assessment, detailed pre-operative planning and ongoing follow-up to help patients achieve the best possible outcome while feeling fully informed throughout their treatment.
Outside of work, Mr Hoffman enjoys spending time with his family, travelling, skiing, scuba diving, photography and restoring classic Land Rovers.
