About Dr Jenifer Sassarini

Personal Profile

Dr Sassarini graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2003 and trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Glasgow and North Wales, completing postgraduate training in 2017. She has been a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Glasgow Royal Infirmary since 2017.

She leads the Menopause service in Greater Glasgow and Clyde, and is actively involved in improving women’s health in menopause, contributing to activities aimed at meeting the goals of the Scottish Government’s Women’s Health Plan.

She was awarded her PhD in 2012, and her research focussed on understanding and investigating the cause of postmenopausal hot flushes. This research has been presented at the International Menopause Society (IMS) World Congress 2011 where Jen was awarded the Robert Greenblatt Prize in Basic Science. She was awarded this prize again in 2017 for further research examining the mechanism of hot flushes.

She has written a number of peer review papers, book chapters and guidelines related to the menopause, as well as collaborating on national guidance documents for the same.

In addition to her clinical role, she continues to be actively involved in clinical trials related to the management of menopausal symptoms.

As well as her specialist role in menopause, Dr Sassarini has a regular one stop clinic where she sees patients with menstrual disorders and postmenopausal bleeding.
