About Miss Jemma Rooker
Personal Profile
Jemma Rooker was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Hand Surgeon at The Great Western Hospital, Swindon in August 2018. She gained her medical degree from Oxford University in 2005.
She completed Foundation Training in Oxford and in 2007 was allocated a run-through training number for Trauma and Orthopaedics in the Severn Deanery. Having completed her orthopaedic training, she was awarded a prestigious ATP fellowship at The Queen Elizabeth and Royal Orthopaedic Hospitals in Birmingham where she received further sub-specialist training in hand and wrist surgery. During her fellowship she worked in a combined orthopaedic and plastic hand unit therefore gaining experience in both disciplines.
In 2017, she won the British Hand Society International Travelling Fellow Scholarship (awarded to the top trainee at the ATP interview) to attend the American Hand Society meeting in San Francisco and visit a number of specialist centres in the United States. These included The Mayo Clinic (Rochester), Michigan University and Stanford.
She was awarded the Hand Diploma in association with Manchester University in 2018. She is an active member of The British Society for Surgery of the Hand.
In addition, Jemma Rooker has a particular interest in education and teaching. She is a tutor for Bristol, Oxford and King’s College University students.
