Mr James Webb is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon who specialises in hip and knee replacement. At Woodlands Hospital in Darlington, he sees NHS, self-pay and insured patients.
He graduated in 1999 in Newcastle upon Tyne and undertook his surgical training in the North East of England. He then qualified as an Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon before undertaking further specialised training in Perth, Western Australia. This was focused on new technologies in hip and knee replacement, as well as complex hip and knee replacement, partial knee replacement and revision (redo) hip and knee replacement. He then returned to the North East, taking up a consultant post in orthopaedics and trauma at James Cook University Hospital in 2011.
In 2019, Mr Webb made the decision to focus his practice solely on elective (planned) surgery and primarily in his main interest of hip and knee replacement surgery. He is now able to focus his time and effort solely on providing a first-class service for his patients, both NHS and private, who have hip and knee problems.
His main interests include both routine and complex hip and knee replacement and robot-assisted hip and knee replacement. He runs a large practice and carries out over 500 joint replacement procedures a year. With two full operating days and two clinics a week at Woodlands Hospital, Mr Webb is able to offer short waiting times and convenient appointments for his patients.
Mr Webb was the first to offer MAKO robot-assisted hip, knee and partial knee replacement surgery in the North East of England. He has now undertaken over 700 cases using this pioneering technique. This has demonstrated quicker recoveries and less pain after hip and knee replacement. He now uses his expertise to teach others on this new technology around the country.
He aims to offer personalised advice to allow each and every patient to achieve their full potential. Whether that is through surgery or non-operative measures. He will spend as much time as needed to ensure he understands each patient’s individual needs and concerns, and work with them to ensure that they have clear advice and a treatment plan that works for them.
Mr Webb uses enhanced recovery techniques to help patients recover quickly and comfortably from their surgery, with only a short post-operative stay in hospital.
