Personal Profile

James is a Consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine with the Ministry of Defence at the Regional Rehabilitation Unit at RAF Halton, providing high level musculoskeletal care to members of the armed forces. He has been the Club Doctor at Oxford United Football Club since 2020 and prior to this worked in football with Milton Keynes Dons, Southampton and as a Development Squad Doctor for the Football Association. He was previously the Lead Doctor for the GB and England Hockey Development Squads and has worked as a multisport practitioner with the English Institute of Sport, as well as having experiencing working in elite cricket and rugby union.

James graduated from the University of Leicester in 2010 and initially pursued a career in General Practice before completing higher specialist training in Sport and Exercise Medicine in Oxford in 2020. He is a fellow of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine (UK) and was awarded the Macleod medal in 2018 for the highest score nationally in the FSEM membership examination. He completed a postgraduate diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine with distinction from the University of Bath and holds a postgraduate certificate in medical ultrasound with distinction from the AECC.

James is experienced in the assessment and management of a variety of presentations, including acute musculoskeletal injuries, chronic training-related problems, mechanical pain, longstanding musculoskeletal pain and complex musculoskeletal problems.
