About Hosam Matar

Personal Profile

Mr Matar is a high-volume, multi-fellowship trained consultant hip and knee replacement surgeon based in Nottingham since 2020. He completed medical and early surgical training in North Central Thames, London, gaining MRCS (Eng) in 2012, and specialist orthopaedic training in the North West, including the prestigious Wrightington Hospital. He was awarded FRCS (Tr&Orth) in 2017 and CCT in 2019.

He pursued advanced fellowship training in hip and knee replacement and revision surgery, including a Charnley Latta Travelling Fellowship at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. There, he worked with world-renowned experts such as Professor Hugh Cameron. He also trained under Mr Peter James in Nottingham, developing expertise in complex revision knee surgery. Mr Matar is part of the East Midlands Specialist Orthopaedic Network (EMSON). His clinical practice focuses on primary and revision hip and knee replacements, performing over 400 joint replacements a year.

An award-winning researcher and published author, he holds a Master’s in Clinical Research with Distinction from the University of Edinburgh and has over 125 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals. His landmark collaborative book “Revision Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Practical Guide” has sold over 12,000 copies.
