Mr Sheikh completed his undergraduate training at the University of Leeds and completed all his postgraduate training in Yorkshire. Following completion of specialist orthopaedic training, he undertook two specialist shoulder and elbow fellowships. He was subsequently appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in the NHS where he has a busy practice focusing on all aspects of elective shoulder and elbow complaints as well as a general trauma practice.
Current Practice
The ethos of his practice is to offer patient-centred surgical care. He always considers whether non-operative treatment would be more appropriate prior to considering surgery. He works closely with the physiotherapy team to ensure the best outcomes. His elective practice offers keyhole surgery for all appropriate shoulder conditions as well as open surgery including anatomic and revision shoulder replacements.
Other Clinical and Non-Clinical Interests
Mr Sheikh has published extensively in peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals and regularly attends international courses and conferences to stay abreast of new developments and to present his research. He is involved in active research in his current role both at a local and national level.
He has a keen interest in teaching and is regularly involved in teaching junior doctors at all levels. He also acts as faculty member on various orthopaedic courses. He is currently the Undergraduate Lead in his hospital for medical students on the orthopaedic rotation and oversees their training. He is also the hip fracture lead in his orthopaedic service – a role that requires him to ensure that the best care is delivered to all hip fracture patients under the orthopaedic service.
