Personal profile

Mr Gurminder Mann qualified from Nottingham University Medical School in 1991. He then completed his basic surgical training and returned to complete his higher surgical training in Urology in Nottingham, Derby, Mansfield and Leicester as part of the Mid-Trent Urology Training Programme.

After completing his training he was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2004.

Gurminder established laparoscopic surgery in Urology at Nottingham after fellowship training from experts in Laparoscopy. He was the first Consultant Urologist to perform urological laparoscopic procedures in Nottingham, specialising in laparoscopic surgery of the kidney. He works as part of the Nottingham Urology Group which is dedicated to providing the best urology care to all patients.

Each Consultant has a specific sub-specialist interest which allows the right urologist to treat your condition where needed, rather than a general urologist. This co-operative approach ensures all patients get the best treatment for their urological condition. Mr Mann has a wide-ranging practice and offers treatment to both men and women who have urinary problems.

This can range from a change in urinary symptoms such as frequency of going to the toilet and urinary leakage. Men often get prostate problems which need detailed investigation before treatment. The treatment may range from medication to surgery. Mr Mann offers standard procedures for prostate surgery and also Urolift. Conditions affecting the penis and scrotum can be very troublesome and difficult to talk about.

These conditions often need simple intervention to make the symptoms better. Erectile dysfunction has become more easy to talk about in recent years and is a very common problem for the ageing man. Assessment and treatment of erectile dysfunction can be undertaken sensitively and effectively, with a range of therapeutic options available. Mr Mann also offers vasectomy reversal to patients whose circumstances have changed and wish to regain their fertility.

The procedure is carried out with Microscope Assistance to allow accurate surgery for the reversal procedure. Patients travel from all over the country and abroad for this demanding surgery and successful outcomes have been achieved more than 20 years after the original vasectomy.

The success rates do vary with time since the original operation, more information and a free initial telephone consultation can be organised via www.vasreversaluk.com or emailing [email protected]. Sperm saving can also be arranged if needed and this can be discussed in detail.

He has a specialist interest in kidney cancer and a range of other urological cancers. This includes cancer of the bladder and testis, as well as more rare tumours such as sarcomas.

His NHS practice encompasses renal cancer including advanced renal cancer which often requires extensive surgery, including removal of tumours extending into the heart with patients being put on cardiac bypass.

He also looks after patients with advanced testicular cancer offering Retroperitoneal Lymph Node Dissection. Mr Mann works closely with other specialties and fosters good working relationships with radiologists, oncologists and other surgical specialties including colorectal, hepatobiliary and cardiac surgery.

He is committed to providing all patients with the best care available using a multidisciplinary approach where needed. He is keen to promote men’s health to help maintain a healthier and fitter lifestyle.
