About Dr Gurjit Bhogal

Personal Profile

Dr Gurjit Bhogal is a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the Centre for Musculoskeletal Medicine, Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, Birmingham. He was appointed in 2015 and has a strong commitment to helping people return to physical activity, regardless of their background or ability level.

He has extensive experience working in elite sport at both national and international level. He is a member of the medical panel for the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and currently serves as England Senior Women’s Team Physician. He previously held the role of Lead Physician for the England Men’s Cricket Team.

He has also acted as Chief Medical Officer for major international tournaments, including the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy and the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

In football, he worked as Club Doctor for Aston Villa Football Club from 2015 to 2023. He has also provided medical support to a wide range of professional sports organisations, including the English Institute of Sport, British Triathlon Federation, Worcestershire County Cricket Club, Warwickshire County Cricket Club, Worcester Warriors Rugby Club, Bristol Bears Rugby Club, Kidderminster Harriers FC, and the Worcester Wolves basketball team.

Dr Bhogal graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 2005. He completed a Master of Science (MSc) in Sport and Exercise Medicine at the University of Nottingham in 2010. He initially trained as a General Practitioner before completing higher specialist training in Sport and Exercise Medicine in 2014.

His clinical focus is on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of musculoskeletal and sports-related injuries. He works with patients ranging from elite athletes to individuals recovering from injury or aiming to improve physical activity and overall wellbeing.

He is dedicated to providing evidence-based, personalised care to help patients recover safely, improve function, and return to activity.
