Mr Gunaratnam Shyamalan is a leading consultant hand surgeon based in Birmingham, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire & Worcestershire.

He is currently working and training others at The University Hospitals Birmingham and is regarded as an expert opinion in hand, wrist, and elbow problems in the West Midlands, serving a population of over one million.

He undertook his hand and plastic surgery fellowship training at three world class units. The first being at the Ganga Hospital, India, with Raja Sabapathy, then at the Royal North Shore Hospital, Sydney, with Professor Tonkin and finally at The Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, with Kate Owers and Rupert Eckersley.
Mr Shyamalan offers an individualised and multi-disciplinary service for the management of complex hand, wrist, and elbow conditions. He continuously works with hand therapists to offer both surgical and non-surgical treatments for his patients. 
He is the training programme director for orthopaedic training Warwick rotation and has a strong background in medical governance.

Mr Shyamalan is an expert in hand and wrist to elbow surgery. He specialises in trauma including tendon and bony reconstruction, complex nerve procedures, arthritis problems, carpal tunnel syndrome and Dupuytren's disease. He also sub-specialises in complex upper-limb bone and joint pain problems, treating conditions such as tennis elbow and golfer's elbow. He is also one of very few Orthopaedic hand surgeons that performs high volumes of arthroscopic scaphoid surgery in the United Kingdom.
