Dr Gayathri Perera is currently a Consultant Dermatologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital (West Middlesex University Hospital site). She sees adult and paediatric patients. She is also the Specialty Group Lead for the NW London Comprehensive Research Network.
Dr Perera can see and consult on children of all ages at The Princess Margaret Hospital.
Dr Perera undertook her medical training at the University of Oxford where she gained her MA in physiological sciences and degrees in medicine and surgery. She undertook her medical internship at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and the Royal United Hospital Bath.
Dr Perera trained in Dermatology at St John's Institute of Dermatology, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, London 2002-2012. In 2007 she was awarded a 1 year Biomedical Research Centre Clinical Training Fellowship in Translational Medicine and then secured a prestigious Medical Research Council (MRC) Clinical Training Research Fellowship to undertake a 3 year period of research on psoriasis. She was awarded a PhD by King's College London in 2012.
At West Middlesex Hospital Dr Perera runs a Medical Dermatology service and a dedicated Biologics service where she sees patients with severe psoriasis, eczema, urticarial and hidradenitis suppurativa. She also runs a combined rheumatology clinic where she sees complex mixed connective tissue disease patients alongside her rheumatology colleagues.
She is also involved in running clinical trials between in psoriasis and eczema. Teaching is a very important part of her role and she teaches medical students, junior doctors, GPs and Dermatology trainees.
