He subsequently won a prestigious British Heart Foundation research fellowship and published award-winning research, which contributed to his M.D. thesis on the role of ACE inhibition in vascular disease.
Dr Witherow trained as a cardiology registrar in the South-East Scotland rotation specialising in invasive cardiology especially coronary intervention and won a further fellowship to train in coronary intervention via the radial artery at the Amsterdam Department of Interventional Cardiology - one of Europe’s most prestigious cardiology units.
He completed his training in Edinburgh before being appointed as a locum consultant in the Royal Bournemouth Hospital prior to his current appointment as a consultant cardiologist and lead clinician for coronary intervention at Dorset County Hospital.
Dr Witherow holds an outpatient clinic at The Winterbourne Hospital on Tuesday afternoons and provides consultation for patients suffering with angina, chest pain, atrial fibrillation, palpitations, breathlessness, collapses, heart failure, heart valve disease, coronary heart disease and heart murmurs.
He is highly experienced in coronary intervention including the use of intravascular ultrasound, pressure wire, rotablation and specialises in highly complex coronary interventions and accepts referrals for second opinions where other cardiology teams have been unable or unwilling to take on challenging cases.
