Personal Profile
Professor Leyva-Leon has been a Consultant Cardiologist since 2000 and was trained at the Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals. Since 2010, his NHS base has been at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
He is a pioneer of cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) in the UK and is past President of the British Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (BSCMR). He has been a clinical advisor to the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) on the national guidelines for Heart Failure and Cardiac Device Therapy.
As Professor of Cardiology at Aston University Medical School, Birmingham, he leads research into cardiac devices, imaging, electrophysiology (rhythm disorders), cardiomyopathies, heart failure and laser applications in Medicine. He has published over 400 research papers/abstracts and presented over 300 lectures.
