Dr Francesco Lo Monaco is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiologist with more than 20 years of expertise in clinical cardiology, advanced cardiac imaging, and diagnostics. Dr Lo Monaco graduated with honours from the University of Pavia Medical School in Italy in 1997. Then he completed specialist training in cardiology with distinction in Milan in 2003. Following his specialist training, he worked as a Consultant Cardiologist in Italy, gaining valuable experience in the diagnosis and treatment of both acute and chronic cardiovascular diseases.
In 2006, he moved to the United States to undertake a prestigious Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cardiovascular Physiology at Harvard Medical School and New York Medical College. During his time in the United States, he successfully completed all United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) requirements, obtaining full US medical licensure. He further expanded his expertise by achieving Level I Accreditation in Cardiac CT Angiography through Johns Hopkins University, strengthening his specialist knowledge in advanced cardiovascular imaging.
Since establishing his career in the United Kingdom, Dr Lo Monaco has become recognised for delivering high-quality cardiac care using the latest evidence-based diagnostic techniques and treatment strategies. His clinical practice covers all aspects of general cardiology, with particular expertise in advanced cardiac imaging, preventive cardiology, and the investigation of patients presenting with cardiac symptoms.
He manages patients with a wide spectrum of cardiovascular conditions, including coronary artery disease, angina, heart attacks, heart failure, hypertension, heart rhythm disorders, atrial fibrillation, cardiomyopathies, valvular heart disease, chest pain, palpitations, dizziness, and unexplained breathlessness. He also performs and interprets a comprehensive range of non-invasive cardiac investigations, including electrocardiograms (ECG), echocardiograms, exercise tolerance testing, ambulatory Holter monitoring, stress echocardiography, MRI, and CT coronary angiography.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Lo Monaco maintains a strong commitment to medical education and academic development. Since 2014, in recognition of his academic and clinical leadership, he has been appointed Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Cardiology at Imperial College School of Medicine, where he taught and mentored medical students and trainee doctors. He also regularly delivers educational lectures for general practitioners and other healthcare professionals on a broad range of cardiology topics and is recognised internationally as a lecturer in echocardiography.
In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Dr Lo Monaco has served as the Official Physician to the Embassy of the Italian Republic in the United Kingdom since 2021, reflecting the trust placed in his clinical expertise.
