About Francesca Lamont

Personal Profile

Francesca (Fran) qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from Kings College London in 2000. Early in her career she gained experience in all areas of inpatient and outpatient physiotherapy in the health services in Dublin and in London, eventually settling in outpatient musculoskeletal physiotherapy. As an outpatient physiotherapist in the NHS she worked with orthopaedic, rheumatology, chronic pain and general musculoskeletal patients, aquatic physiotherapy/hydrotherapy and mentoring junior physiotherapists.

In 2007 she completed an MSc in Advanced Physiotherapy at University College London and achieved membership of the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP). Her MSc research into the descending control of trunk muscles was published in the journal ‘Motor Control’ in 2011.

After completion of her MSc, Francesca worked in private practice in the Guildford area in a musculoskeletal and sports injuries clinic until 2013 until she decided to take a parental career break to look after her growing young family. During that time, she continued to keep her interest in physiotherapy going, through reading research and meeting for discussion with colleagues. Between January and May 2022 she completed her return to practice retraining at Mount Alvernia Hospital and subsequently took on a position as a senior physiotherapist in the outpatient department there. She is involved in the management of acute, chronic and post surgical patients and is interested in the whole musculoskeletal system, but has a special interest in hand therapy.

Francesca finds the musculoskeletal system fascinating, but also the free flowing communication of the musculoskeletal system with the brain and the influences of additional factors e.g lifestyle, emotional factors, past experience, knowledge and behaviours. With all these factors in mind, she takes a holistic approach and collaborates with the patient, drawing from the best available evidence, to get the best outcome possible for the individual.

Francesca enjoys spending time with her family, short runs, long walks with her dog, swimming and caring for her small flock of sheep.
