Mr Fadi Ghazala is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, specialising in Paediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus. He leads Paediatric & Strabismus surgical services in NHS Lanarkshire, at University Hospitals Hairmyres & Wishaw. 

He graduated Bachelor of Science from the University of St. Andrew’s, before completing his medical degree at the University of Manchester in 2014. Following foundation training in Tayside, he entered seven-year Ophthalmology Specialist Training at the Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology, Glasgow. During this time, he obtained Masters of Science from the University of Edinburgh. He also undertook one year advanced Paediatric Ophthalmology training at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. This was followed by specialised fellowship training in Paediatric Ophthalmology at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, UK and Adult Strabismus at John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. 

His main research interests are in the field of teleophthalmology to improve care, where he has authored several peer-reviewed articles. He has also presented outcomes of surgical strabismus techniques to improve patient outcomes at national & international conferences. He has won several awards throughout his career including: Dean’s list for academic performance, URIP award for research, Bausch & Lomb quality audit award, MSc distinction, Scottish Ophthalmological Club paper & video prizes, and the Sir David Brewster Medal from the University of Edinburgh.

Mr Ghazala takes an active interest in teaching and education, at university teaching hospitals Hairmyres & Wishaw, in conjunction with the University of Glasgow where he is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer.

Above all, Mr Ghazala is passionate about optimising surgical outcomes for his patients. He regularly performs squint surgery using precise adjustable methods, muscle sparing technique, and small incisions to improve outcomes with reduced pain and quicker post-operative recovery. He runs a busy strabismus service in NHS Lanarkshire, including the management of complex cases.
