Personal Profile

Mr Kamel is an experienced colorectal and general surgeon based at a busy NHS Trust in South London. He specialises in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) procedures for both benign and malignant bowel diseases, including cancers of the colon and rectum, as well as diverticular disease and other non-cancerous colorectal conditions.
Training and Qualifications.

Mr Kamel graduated from Brighton and Sussex Medical School in 2008. Following completion of his Foundation Training, he entered the London Core Surgical Training Programme in 2010. He became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2013 and went on to join the highly regarded South West London Higher Surgical Training Programme in 2014.
In 2020, he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. Completing his training six months ahead of schedule, Mr Kamel was appointed as a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Croydon University Hospital in 2023, where he currently serves as Chair of the Colorectal Cancer Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).
Teaching and Education.

Mr Kamel has a strong passion for medical education. He is the Lead Consultant for Medical and Physician Associate Students at Croydon University Hospital and serves as the Foundation Year 1 (FY1) Training Programme Director for the Trust. He is actively involved in mentoring and supervising junior doctors and surgical trainees.
Research.

During his specialist training, Mr Kamel undertook formal research in colorectal cancer genetics at a London university, earning his PhD in 2023 for his thesis entitled “Biomarkers in Colorectal Cancer.” His research has been widely recognised, with multiple peer-reviewed publications in international journals, presentations at global conferences, and several academic awards.
Clinical Practice.

Mr Kamel is an accredited endoscopist, fully certified by the Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG). He performs diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy, including endoscopic polyp removal.

His clinical interests include the investigation and management of bowel-related symptoms such as diarrhoea, constipation, rectal bleeding, and abdominal bloating. He advocates a multidisciplinary approach to patient care, working closely with gastroenterologists and dietitians to provide comprehensive management plans.
In addition, Mr Kamel has a particular expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of benign anorectal conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal fistulas, and anal skin tags.

Mr Kamel is also an accredited Endometriosis Surgeon with the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE). As a core member of the Endometriosis MDT at Croydon University Hospital, he performs complex joint procedures in collaboration with Gynaecology and Urology colleagues.

Outside of his professional life, Mr Kamel enjoys spending time with his family and young son. He is an enthusiastic football fan and is fluent in Egyptian Arabic.
