Personal Profile

Dr Etienne Laverse is a Consultant Neurologist based at Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and is an Honorary Consultant Neurologist at St George’s Hospital, London. 

Training and Appointment

Etienne graduated from Imperial College School of Medicine in 2007 and completed a BSc (Hons) degree in Genetics at University College London (UCL). 

He undertook junior and specialist training in London and Newcastle, with posts at The Royal Victoria Infirmary, Royal Free and King’s College Hospitals. 

Research and Publications 

Dr Laverse carried out postgraduate research on imaging, molecular and psychometric markers of sports-related mild traumatic brain injury at UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, where he was also a clinical tutor. He has published peer-reviewed research papers on brain injury biomarkers in elite rugby players and a book chapter on the management of head injuries in sports. 

Dr Laverse is a member of an international research group studying the long-term neurological effects of sports-related brain injury.

Current Practice

He runs general neurology clinics at Royal Surrey County Hospital, managing a wide range of general neurological conditions including headache, Parkinson’s disease and related movement disorders, tremor, seizures, memory difficulties and restless legs. He also runs a specialist concussion (mild traumatic brain injury) clinic at St George’s Hospital, London. 

He has a keen interest in medical education and regularly teaches clinical medical students and junior doctors.
