About Mr Eric Nicholls

Personal Profile

Mr Nicholls is a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer with The St George’s Hospital Medical School, University of London. He teaches undergraduate and postgraduate medical students on a weekly basis and performs selection interviews, examines and lectures medical students several times each year.

As chief examiner in Paediatric Surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons, Mr Nicholls represented the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons on the Intercollegiate Board of Examiners.

He has been a Council Member of the Royal College of Surgeons and Chair of the Children’s Surgery Forum. He is a Senior Journal Article Reviewer with the Journal of Paediatric Surgery, and a visiting lecturer at Imperial College London.

As a general paediatric surgeon, he has a special interest in neonatal, and gastro-intestinal surgery, as well as inguino-scrotal surgery and provides vascular access for children requiring long term parenteral nutrition, or chemotherapy.

He performs appendicectomies, cholecystectomies and fundoplications laparoscopically when appropriate, many Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomies for assisted nutrition. The more common neonatal conditions he manages include Hirschsprung’s disease, malrotation, atresias of the oesophagus, and intestine, and necrotizing enterocolitis.

Mr Nicholls can see and consult on children of all ages. Whilst most young children can be managed without surgery, when it is required, he undertakes this at The Princess Margaret Hospital for children aged 3 and above. Mr Nicholls also offers paediatric surgery as a specialised treatment at the Princess Margaret Hospital. 

His complication rate is significantly lower than the national average.

As a father of 3 sons, he is actively involved in Community rugby and is Lead Safeguarding Officer at his local club. He otherwise, enjoys opera and walking his labradoodle.
