About Emma Wood

Personal Profile

Dr Emma Wood is a Consultant Radiologist and the Chief of Service for Diagnostics and Clinical Support Services at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, and has over 20 years’ experience as a radiologist. She is available for reporting and ultrasound at Mount Alvernia Hospital.

She has special expertise in the imaging of musculoskeletal and rheumatological conditions and bone health, coronary artery CT angiography and calcium scoring and paediatric imaging. 


Training and Appointment

After school Dr Wood pursued her interest in science and love of learning at Newnham College, Cambridge University, where she read Natural Sciences. She went on to study Medicine at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School. After working in a number of London teaching hospitals, including Charing Cross Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, UCH and Middlesex Hospital, Dr Wood gained MRCP (Membership of the Royal College of Physicians). 

She subsequently joined the Radiology specialist registrar training programme at St George’s Hospital and spent time working at The Royal Brompton Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital before gaining FRCR (Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists).


Teaching

Dr Wood is involved in teaching the next generation of radiologists in the Kent Surrey and Sussex training scheme. 

She is very interested in the radiology environment and the experience for patients and is very skilled in supporting anxious patients during their scans.
