About Dr Elliot Smith

Personal Profile

Dr Smith trained in medicine at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals in London and specialized in cardiology at the Manchester Royal Infirmary and the London Chest Hospital. In 2008, he was appointed as an NHS consultant at Barnet, Chase Farm, and The London Chest Hospitals (Barts Health NHS Trust).

Dr Smith sees all general cardiology patients but has a special interest in assessing chest pain, performing coronary angiography, and conducting percutaneous coronary interventions.

He has a sub-specialist interest in complex coronary interventional techniques, including rotational atherectomy and minimally invasive treatments for longstanding arterial blockages (chronic total occlusions). He is a recognised national expert in this area and a European trainer (proctor) for these procedures. Dr Smith also helped develop the London Chest Hospital’s Heart Attack Centre, one of the largest services of its kind in the UK. He is dedicated to training future interventional cardiologists and serves as the Director of the Cardiovascular Training Institute at Barts.

His research interests include Chronic Total Occlusions (CTO) and percutaneous haemodynamic support. Outside of work, Dr Smith enjoys spending time with his wife, three sons, and daughter. He is passionate about sports, a keen cyclist, and an avid Manchester United supporter. When not watching games at Old Trafford, he supports his children from the touchline.
