Elaine is an experienced Physiotherapist and Specialist Hand Therapist with over 35 years of clinical experience. She qualified as a physiotherapist in 1986 and went on to specialise in hand therapy in 1991 at Mount Vernon Hospital.
Over the course of her career, Elaine has worked extensively across both NHS and private healthcare settings, developing advanced expertise in the assessment and rehabilitation of complex hand and upper limb conditions. She has played a key role in developing specialist hand therapy services, including involvement in the establishment of one of the first multidisciplinary hand surgery and therapy units in London.
Elaine has a wide range of clinical experience in treating upper limb conditions, with a strong focus on restoring function, reducing pain, and supporting patients to return to daily activities and work.

Her interest in work-related upper limb conditions led her to complete a Master’s degree (MSc) in Ergonomics, which supports her specialist approach to assessing how workplace and activity demands can impact hand and arm function.
Elaine also contributed to the development of a specialist musicians’ clinic at BMI Hendon Hospital, providing tailored care for performing artists who require highly precise hand function.
Elaine is actively involved in education and training within the field of hand therapy. She regularly teaches on hand therapy courses across the UK and internationally, sharing her clinical knowledge and supporting the development of other healthcare professionals.
She is also one of the partners in NES Hand Therapy Training LLP, which delivers specialist training for clinicians working in hand rehabilitation.
Between 2001 and 2006, Elaine served on the education committee for the British Association of Hand Therapists. In this role, she contributed to the development and maintenance of national education standards for hand therapists across the UK.
Elaine is committed to providing individualised, evidence-based care. Her approach focuses on understanding each patient’s specific needs and goals, whether they are recovering from injury, managing a long-term condition, or aiming to return to sport, performance, or work.
