About Dr Edward Needham

Personal Profile

Dr Edward Needham is a consultant neurologist at Addenbrookes Hospital and West Suffolk Hospital. He leads the neuroimmunology service at Addenbrookes Hospital, and runs a research group investigating the role of inflammation following head injury. He holds a general neurology clinic at West Suffolk Hospital where he sees all neurological presentations such as Parkinson’s disease and epilepsy.

Dr Needham has published widely on neurological topics including the neuroimmunology of head injury, multiple sclerosis, and neurological consequences of systemic illnesses such as COVID-19. He is a keen educator, and regularly lectures at national training meetings for neurologists and intensive care doctors.

Dr Needham believes that medicine should be a team effort between doctor and patient, working together to understand the problem at hand, and to develop a management plan that is tailored specifically to help each individual.

Dr Needham has particular expertise in neuroinflammatory conditions (such as Myasthenia Gravis, Multiple Sclerosis, Neuromyelitis Optica, Encephalitis and Neurosarcoidosis), traumatic brain injury and Parkinson’s disease, but also maintains a broad practice across general neurological conditions including headache, epilepsy and functional neurological disorders.
