Mr Lee studied medicine at Oxford University where he won an Open Academic Scholarship from Brasenose College and a number of additional prizes including a distinction in the pre-clinical medical exams.  Since qualifying he has worked in the U.K. and New Zealand before sub-specialising with specialist fellowships at St Thomas’ and Moorfields Eye Hospitals in London.

Mr Lee now practices at private hospitals in South West London and Surrey and has a substantive NHS post at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.

In both the NHS and private clinics he specialises in cataract surgeries and treating medical and surgical retinal conditions.  The retinal conditions treated include age related-macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusions, diabetic retinopathy, vitreous haemorrhage, floaters, retinal tears and retinal detachment.  Retinal surgeries are typically performed with small (25 gauge) instrumentation.  He regularly performs retinal laser procedures as well as performing YAG laser capsulotomies.  With regards to cataract surgeries Mr Lee uses the latest small-incision techniques and has a broad range of experience with the various type of lens implants on offer.  He is also referred complex cataracts by colleagues, or those patients requiring additional sub-specialty expertise.

Prior to full time clinical practice Mr Lee undertook a PhD related to gene therapies for retinal conditions.  He has published widely with 39 research publications in peer-reviewed journals during his training, and has presented at many national and international meetings.  He won a prestigious Welcome Trust Clinical Research Training Fellowship to support his research project on “Cone photoreceptor rescue in inherited retinal degenerations.”  He continues to keep up to date with ophthalmic research and evolving treatments.

Mr Lee employs his own private secretary, and gives his patients email and telephone contact details to be used for answering queries or concerns.  His secretary is able to book appointments directly with the hospitals, and arrange extra treatment or clinic slots where required, all of which can make the process much easier for patients under his care.  A clinic letter is sent to the patient and their GP after each clinic appointment and copied to their Optometrist where required.  Mr Lee and his secretary have established good working relationships with the optometrists in the area and are able to request copies of previous imaging, and handover for their continued care when appropriate.
