About Eamonn Coveney

Personal Profile

Eamonn Coveney was appointed a Consultant General, Breast & Endocrine Surgeon to West Suffolk Hospital in 2000 and has worked in private surgical practice in St Edmunds Hospital since 2001.

He qualified from University College Dublin in 1987 and undertook prefellowship training in Ireland prior to becoming a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland in 1991. Moving to Duke University Medical Center in the US in 1992 as a Clinical Fellow, he undertook preclinical research in immune based therapies for metastatic breast cancer. This work formed the basis of his Masters of Surgery (MCh) thesis which was awarded in 2002. He returned to the UK in 1997 and completed his specialist training in the East Anglian region working in Ipswich and Addenbrookes Hospital prior to his appointment.

Mr Coveney is a friendly and relaxed clinician with an engaging manner. He is trained in the use of clinical hypnosis for the management of medical and surgical conditions and has developed a particular expertise in abdominal hernia surgery performed under local anaesthesia.
