Dr Duncan Hogg graduated in Medicine from the University of Aberdeen in 1994. He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1997 and went on to complete his general cardiology training at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
In 2007, he finished his specialist training in Cardiology and General Internal Medicine (GIM), earning his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) from the Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board. He is listed on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register for both Cardiology and GIM.
Before taking up his permanent Consultant post, Dr Hogg completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Canada. There, he received advanced training in all aspects of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
He was a British Heart Foundation junior research fellow, focusing on how blood clotting and platelet activity changes in patients with atrial fibrillation before and after electrical cardioversion.
Since 2009, Dr Hogg has been a Consultant Cardiologist at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. He specialises in general cardiology, with particular interests in PCI and cardiac CT.
At Albyn Hospital, Dr Hogg regularly sees patients with a wide range of heart conditions, including angina, heart failure, valve disease, and arrhythmias. He also investigates symptoms such as chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, and fainting. In addition, he provides pre-operative cardiac assessments and evaluates occupational implications of cardiac disease.
