About Mr Dimitrios Karadaglis

Personal Profile

Mr Dimitrios Karadaglis is a highly experienced and approachable shoulder and upper limb surgeon who has spent many years helping patients regain comfort, movement and confidence in their daily lives. He specialises in treating a wide range of degenerative and post‑traumatic conditions affecting the shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand, and is known for his calm manner, clear explanations and genuine commitment to patient wellbeing.

Mr Karadaglis began his medical training in Greece, where he qualified as a doctor before completing his military service in the Special Airborne Forces. This early experience shaped his strong work ethic, discipline and dedication to helping others. With a growing interest in orthopaedics, he moved to the United Kingdom to pursue specialist training and further develop his skills.

He spent a year at Imperial College London undertaking research and earned a Master’s degree in surgery, deepening his understanding of musculoskeletal conditions and the science behind effective treatment. He then completed his orthopaedic training in South East London, rotating through renowned centres including St Thomas’, Guy’s and King’s College Hospital. In 2008, he achieved his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in Trauma and Orthopaedics, marking a significant milestone in his specialist career.

Eager to broaden his expertise even further, Mr Karadaglis spent six months in Boston, USA, working with the Harvard Sports Medicine Team and the Boston Shoulder Institute. This experience provided invaluable exposure to advanced surgical techniques, innovative treatments and world‑leading approaches to shoulder and upper limb care. It also strengthened his ability to support patients with sports‑related injuries and complex shoulder problems.

Today, Mr Karadaglis is a full‑time Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. He cares for patients with a wide range of upper limb conditions, from arthritis and tendon injuries to fractures, instability and rotator cuff problems. Whether a patient is struggling with long‑standing pain, recovering from an injury or facing a new diagnosis, he takes the time to listen, understand their concerns and guide them through their options with clarity and reassurance.

He has published widely in the field of orthopaedics and remains committed to staying at the forefront of his specialty. Patients appreciate his thoughtful, patient‑centred approach and his ability to tailor treatment plans to each individual’s needs, lifestyle and goals. His focus is always on helping people return to the activities they enjoy—whether that’s sport, work or simply moving comfortably day to day.

With his combination of international training, advanced surgical expertise and a warm, supportive manner, Mr Karadaglis provides high‑quality, compassionate care to every patient he sees.

Patient Feedback

"This hospital is fantastic, being I would normally be under NHS treatment. Since being under the care of Mr Karadaglis at this hospital, he has been a God send literally.

His knowledge and skill as an Orthopaedic Specialist is next to none. I was told by the NHS that after having a failed shoulder surgery, there was no surgical procedures that could be performed on me to fix what had been damaged.

Mr Karadaglis has shown and revealed everything wrong within my shoulder and has also reassured me he can fix everything and get me back to living a normal life. This includes my trade as a structural metal worker plus being an ambassador for country where I play football for the England Fans FC who represent out National team England.

I feel very lucky to have met this man and I’m very much excited to have the 1st of 3 operations starting in January 2023."
