Dr Dharmakeerthi is a Consultant in Clinical Neurophysiology with vast experience and expertise in peripheral and central nervous system disorders. Dr Dharmakeerthi was graduated with MBBS at the university of Peradeniya Sri Lanka. He did his postgraduate training in Medicine (MD) at the University of Colombo Sri Lanka. His initially training in Neurology and Neurophysiology was done at the National Hospital Colombo which is the largest hospital in Asia. He completed his post graduate studies and training at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queens Square London. Currently he works as a substantiative consultant in Neurophysiology at the Great Western Hospital Swindon.

He specialises in the diagnosis of neurological disorders using advanced Neurophysiological investigations such as Nerve conduction studies, Electromyography, Evoked potential studies and electroencephalography etc. He works closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide expert, evidence-based care for patients with conditions affecting the nervous system. His main interest is in diagnosis of peripheral nervous system disorders such as peripheral neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar neuropathy and other common and uncommon compressive and non-compressive neuropathies. Motor neuron disease, myasthenia gravis, myopathy and myositis are other areas of his interest. Further he provides comprehensive assessment in the diagnosis of Epilepsy, encephalopathy, brain and spinal cord diseases.

Other than the diagnostic services he provides tertiary care management of dystonia, spasticity, migraine, tremor, nerve pains with Botox treatments. His research interests are Guillain Barre syndrome and Hereditary Neuropathy with tendency to Pressure Palsy.

In addition to his clinical practice he is an educational supervisor for undergraduate and post graduate medical graduate and allied health graduates.

Clinical Interests

• Diagnosing compressive peripheral neuropathy such as carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar neuropathy, common peroneal neuropathy and other rare compressive neuropathies.
• Evaluation of peripheral nerve injuries including brachial plexopathy, lumbo-sacral plexopathy, cervical radiculopathy, lumbo-sacral radiculopathy.
• Evaluation and diagnosis of immune mediated neuropathy (CIDP, Multifocal motor neuropathy, Guillain Bare syndrome) and inflammatory neuropathy.
• Diagnosis of complex neurological conditions like Motor neurone disease, Myasthenia gravis and other neuromuscular conditions. Evaluation and diagnosis of Myopathy and Myositis.
• Evaluation and diagnosis of epilepsy and seizure disorder.
• Treatment of tremor, dystonia, migraine, hyperhidrosis, hypersalivation, spasticity with Botox (Botulinum toxin type A)
