Personal Profile

Mr Dean Michael is an Orthopaedic Lower Limb Surgeon, specialising in hip replacement, hip resurfacing, hip arthroscopy (key-hole surgery of the hip), sports injuries and hip problems in young adults.  He also performs corrective foot and ankle surgery including ankle injuries and bunion surgery.

Training and Appointment

Mr Michael qualified from St Bartholomew’s Hospital, and completed his postgraduate orthopaedic training in London, gaining expertise in the management of disorders of the lower limb.

He undertook specialist training at University College London and The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore. Mr Michael subsequently completed a specialist Hip and Knee Surgery Fellowship in Sydney, working at the Orthosports Unit, The New South Wales Institute of Sports Medicine and at the New South Wales Orthopaedic Research Institute.

It was here that he honed his interest in the management of hip problems in young people, sports injuries and joint preservation.

Mr Michael has been a consultant at The Rowley Bristow Orthopaedic Unit at St Peter's Hospital since 2005 and is keenly involved in training future orthopaedic surgeons, supervising specialist orthopaedic trainees and a specialist orthopaedic fellow. 

Current Practice

He is a member of the British Orthopaedic Association, The British Hip Society and The British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. He is particularly interested in hip problems in younger people, sports injuries and improving outcomes and recovery in hip replacement.
