Personal Profile
I qualified from Oxford University in 1990 and did most of my postgraduate training in London and the South East. After a period of clinical research in menopause at King’s College Hospital I undertook further training in minimal access surgery, focussing on the treatment of menstrual problems and endometriosis. In 2003 I took up the post of Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at West Suffolk Hospital. In addition to my clinical role I am educational supervisor for Foundation Year doctors.
For 30 years I have maintained an interest in the menopause and hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The early 2000s saw the publication of research that cast significant doubt on the safety of HRT and led to a dramatic fall in the number of women taking it and indeed GPs who were comfortable in prescribing. Recently there has been a reappraisal of the risks and benefits of HRT culminating in the publication of NICE guidance in 2015. Nevertheless it can be difficult to know what is best for each individual and that is when it helps to be able to see someone who has the experience and understanding to inform and guide women and GPs through the decision making process.

I am interested in all aspects of benign gynaecology, particularly the treatment of bleeding problems, fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis and menopausal problems. I take time to ensure that my patients understand their diagnosis and treatment options and always strive to tailor treatment plans according to patients' wishes and expectations.
